Ghazwan Bags Grand Prix Title
Sami Ghazwan put on a class display yesterday in the BREEF Showjumping Championship at the Mounted Police Centre in Budaiya.

Ghazwan won the one-day event's Grand Prix title while also taking second and third place in another category.

Mounted on Miss Fairooz, Ghazwan completed a flawless ride in the Grand Prix - which featured two rounds and fences between 120cm to 130cm in height.

He had a finishing time of 43.47 seconds to take first place, narrowly ahead of runner-up Ali Issa, riding Aberdeen Road. Issa finished in 39.23s, but had four penalty points.

Yasser Al Shaikh on Griffin 'G' claimed third place in 49.85s and nine penalty points. Rounding out the classification were Hussain Al Daylami on Al Khalidiya Michaela, Basel Al Dossary on Dong, and Joanna Herbert on Bollywood.

In the adults class two with fences 110cm to 120cm high, Ghazwan clinched second place riding Sondus Seina and third on Chilli.

Taking the victory was Issa riding Amira, who completed the two-phase competition in 27.11s. Ghazwan rode his horses to 29.00s and 29.06 finishes, respectively. All three had zero penalties.

Khalid Hilal on Bashayer was fourth, wile Muslim Ali on Kuwait and Abbas Al Ghuraifi on Eurocommerce Balisano completed the top six.

In the adult class one jump-off with fences 110cm to 120cm in height, Hussain Al Busta on Mahajer claimed first place with a 30.71s winning time. Salman Faraj was second in 36.96s, with both riders scoring no penalties.

Ali, this time riding Dar, took third place in 28.19s but with four penalty points.

The top six also included Abdul Rahman on Galloper, Fahad Taqi on Al Joof, and Murtada Mohammed on Zahy.

Meanwhile, Jassim Isa and Sophie Appleton were among the top junior riders as they both finished among the top three in two competition categories.

Jassim won the juniors class three with fences 90cm to 115cm in 32.87s and no penalties. Sophie came second on Al Khalidiya Femore after finishing in 51.69s with four penalty points, followed by Ahmed Al Alawi on Tyson who came third in 52.67s and also with four penalties.

Jassim then took third place in the juniors class two event, this time finishing behind Sophie who was once again second.

Jassim, riding Kuwait in the event which featured fences 80cm to 90cm high, finished in 28.92s, while Sophie was marginally better once again riding Al Khalidiya Femore and finishing in 28.61s. Isa Janahi on Maranhuo took the win in 28.09s, as he led the best three who each had no penalties.

In the juniors class one, Hussain Al Afoo on Mahajer won. He completed the event which had fences 70cm to 80cm in height in 29.53s. Annabelle, riding Dilmun Fallah, took the runner-up spot in 30.64s, followed by Saber Salman on Casabtelo in 31.35s. Each of the top three riders had zero penalty points.

The championship was organised by the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation, and was held under the patronage of BREEF president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
